Samsung 15-inch Blue Phase LCD TV

Samsung’s high-end LCD displays dubbed as the Blue Phase series won’t be available til 2011 but here’s something that will keep your eyes open and wanting this new LCD display. The Samsung 15-inch Blue Phase LCD TV boasts of a new technology called “Blue Phase” which allows a much improved image quality and a panel with a 240 Hertz image-driving speed allowing for naturally-moving images on your screen. The present image driving speed of most LCDs is 12- Hertz.
The units, as per Samsung, is not only high tech but are cost efficient. Spectators at the Soiety for Information Display were treated to the prototype in Los Angeles this year.
While most LCDs rely on liquid crystal allignment layers, this one does not because it creates its own layers sans the necessary rubbing processes. And with a reduced fabrication process, the manufacturer expends lower production cost.
So how come this new technology is called “Blue” ? The developers apparently saw bluish hues on the panel during their development process. The technology has been sought after by variou researchers but Samsung was the first to unveil a prototype that is commercially feasible.
